The
sample collected at the terminus of the boring will be submitted.
In addition, the sample registering the highest PID reading will
also be submitted. Should none of the samples from a particular
boring register on the PID above background levels, only the
terminal sample will be submitted for analysis. Analysis will be
run for total hydrocarbons using EPA approved procedures. Should
contamination be indicated from the initial analysis, more
specific analyses for benzene, toluene, and xylene (BTX) and;
total lead can be performed at additional cost .
Monitor Well Installation
Two-inch diameter monitoring wells will be installed in the
borings according to the specifications outlined in section 2647
of the Subchapter 16 regulations . JHK&A will secure any well
permits necessary. The following construction materials and
standards are proposed for each well installation:
o Two-inch diameter 0 . 020 slotted Schedule 40 PVC screen
will extend from the bottom of the well to 5-10 feet
above the saturated zone .
o Blank Schedule 40 PVC will extend from the screened
interval to within one foot of the surface and will be
capped with a locking cover for security.
o All PVC will be threaded with no glues used during
assembly.
o Clean No . 3 Monterey sand will be used as a filter pack
and will extend from the bottom of the well to two feet
above the screened interval .
o A minimum of two feet of bentonite clay will be placed
on top of the sand pack to preclude the infiltration of
surface water into the well .
o The remaining annulus above the clay seal will be
backfilled with a cement-bentonite slurry to grade .
o A cast iron Christy box cover will be installed flush
at grade .
