H KLEINFELDER & ASSOCIATES
File: PW86-2016/15 : 405
August 5 , 1986
Page 5
Monitoring Well Development
The wells will be developed using a combination of pumping,
surging, and air lifting techniques until the water runs
relatively clear and free of appreciable fines.
Monitoring Well Sampling
Each well will be purged by pumping until at least three
bore volumes have been removed from the well . Temperature, pH,
and conductivity readings will be taken periodically and
monitored for stability as an indicator of sufficient purging.
Once purging is completed, one sample will be collected from each
well . To minimize cross-contamination of samples, all equipment
used to obtain samples will be thoroughly steam-cleaned and
rinsed with distilled water before the sampling of each well .
Samples will be collected by bailing into appropriate
containers specified by the analytical laboratory and immediately
placed in iced containers. To ensure sample integrity, samples
will be handled under strict chain-of-custody procedures.
Sample Analyses
One water sample from each well will be submitted for
analysis. For initial screening we recommend that a total
hydrocarbons analysis be run using a Fourier Transform Infrared
Spectrophotometry technique, EPA method 418 . 1 . This analysis
will provide a quantification of total hydrocarbons present but
will not speciate the various hydrocarbon constituents. Should
hydrocarbon products be detected in any of the samples, more
specific analyses may be required.
FINAL REPORT AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Upon completion of our field work, a report will be prepared
with a description of our field investigation including logs of
the soil lithology encountered, results of the laboratory
analyses, and recommendations for further investigation, if
necessary.
