SACRAMENTO
r.
Letter to Mr. Harlan Knoll
November 19, 1990
Page 2
Ignitability: The Sample will be analyzed to determine if
the sample is capable, under standard
temperature and pressure, of causing fire
through friction, absorption of moisture or
spontaneous chemical changes, pursuant to
Section 66702 of Title 22 CCR.
Corrosivity: The sample will bE nixed with an equivalent
weight of water to produce a liquid. The
result pH of the liquid will be measured and
the corrosion rate on a specified steel
standard will be measured, pursuant to
Section 66708 of Title 22 CCR.
Reactivity: The sample will be analyzed to determine if
it may be characterized as a hazardous waste
pursuant to Section 66705 of Title 22 CCR.
Based on Versar's experience with diesel impacted soils,
Versar does not believe that the soils will be categorized as a
hazardous waste. If the soils are not characterized as a
hazardous waste, the soil will therefore be classified as a
designated waste. Designated wastes do not require a variance
from the DHS for an on site remediation, to be performed.
Versar will perform the analytical teoting during the
drilling of the boreholes for the vacuum extraction system. The
results of the waste characterization will. be available r
approximately two weeks after. the laboratory analysis have been
received.
If you have any questions or comments on this matter, please
call me at (916) 962-1612.
Yours sincerely,
R.
