The responsibilities of the Emergency Response Coordinator (ERC) upon <br />receiving notification of a fire or explosion are as follows: <br />5.3.1. Respond immediately to the area of the emergency and assess <br />possible hazards to employees, public and the environment from <br />incident. <br />5.3.1.1.Consider both direct and indirect effects such as any toxic, <br />irritating or asphyxiating gases and hazardous surface water <br />runoff from water or chemicals used to control the fire. <br />5.3.2. If necessary, activate the evacuation alarm or make an evacuation <br />announcement on the PA system. <br />5.3.3. With assistance of ERT members, use fire extinguishers to control <br />the fire. Do not fight any fire alone. NOTE: Only personnel who <br />have received formal training in the use of portable fire <br />extinguishers should attempt to use them. <br />5.3.4. If the fire cannot be controlled by fire extinguishers, notify Manteca <br />Fire Department by dialing 9-911 and advise them of the <br />emergency. <br />5.3.5. Assign responsibilities to the Emergency Response Team <br />members using the 'Emergency Response' checklist (Appendix C). <br />5.3.6. Ensure that evacuation or partial evacuation of the facility is <br />completed. <br />5.3.7. Coordinate emergency actions with Fire Department when they <br />arrive. If the fire involves hazardous materials, the ERC will follow <br />the Hazardous Material Spill Response Procedure (Section 6.0) as <br />appropriate. <br />5.4. Emergency Response Team Members (ERT) are to immediately respond <br />to the designated meeting site (typically either the emergency location or <br />the Main Lobby) when notified via the PA system or a general alarm that <br />an emergency exists. ERT members are to assist with the following: <br />5.4.1. Ensure that individuals in their areas are taking appropriate action <br />and necessary equipment is shutdown. <br />5.4.2. Direct Fire Department to appropriate area as assigned by ERC. <br />
