Primary responsibilities include the following:
• Maintaining a current Sierra Chemical Co. hazardous materials and hazardous waste inventory;
• Ensuring that all hazardous wastes and materials are appropriately segregated;
• Ensuring that hazardous waste containers are appropriately labeled, handled,stored, and
managed;
• Conducting required weekly inspections of centralized hazardous waste accumulation areas;
• Maintaining records of all hazardous waste manifests and shipments;
• Coordinating waste pickups; and
• Coordinating appropriate training including RCRA Hazardous Waste Awareness/Management
Training and DOTTraining for Signing a Hazardous Waste Manifest.
3.3 Hazardous Materials/Waste Handlers
Hazardous Materials/Waste Handlers include any individuals that use,store, and/or dispose of
hazardous materials(or direct others that do these activities). Handlers are expected to perform and
comply with the following items:
• Read and understand the HWMP;
• Complete RCRA Hazardous Waste Awareness/Management Training;
• Inspect locations where hazardous materials and wastes are stored to verify this is being
managed properly;
• Comply with the health,safety,and emergency response requirements of this plan;
• Reduce the usage of hazardous materials and subsequent generation of unwanted hazardous
materials when possible or feasible;
• Identify and use less toxic alternatives to hazardous materials, when possible or feasible;and
• Provide feedback and ideas regarding improvements to the HWMP.
4. Hazardous Waste Generator Status
There are three (3)generator categories for hazardous waste and two (2)generator categories for
universal waste,as observed in Table 1. Each generator of hazardous waste and universal waste must
determine their generator status for each calendar month and year.
Moreover,Sierra Chemical Co. is a large quantity generator(LQG)of hazardous waste and a Small
Quantity Handler of Universal Waste (SQHUW).A LQG is one who generates 1,000 or more kilograms
(2,200 pounds) of hazardous waste in a calendar month or 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds)of acute hazardous
waste in a calendar month or may generate 100 kilograms (220 pounds) or more of any residue or
contaminated soil,waste or other debris resulting from the cleanup of a spill of any acute hazardous
waste in a calendar month.A SQHUW generates less than 5000 kilograms (111,000 pounds)of universal
waste in one year.
Prepared By: Issue date: Replaces: Page:
ACT Environmental Services, Inc.
