05 May 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0522
The sampling assembly was loaded with four pre-cleaned 6-inch by 1.12-inch brass sleeves and
was driven to the desired sampling depth, where a restraining pin on the sampler point was
released and the sampler was driven an additional two feet into the subsurface, filling the brass
sleeves with soil. Upon retrieval of the sampler, a soil-filled 6-inch sleeve was preserved for
laboratory analysis by covering the ends of the soil-filled sleeve with a Teflon sheet, capping
with a plastic endcap, and sealing with duct tape. The preserved samples were labeled with
boring designation, depth, date and time, and were then stored in a chilled container pending
shipment to the analytical laboratory.
The preserved samples were shipped in a chilled container under chain-of-custody to
McCampbell Analytical, Inc., (MAI) a California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified
analytical laboratory. Selected samples were analyzed for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel (TPH-d) in accordance with EPA
Method 8015 Modified and
• Volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene: BTEX) in accordance
with EPA Method 8020.
• A total of eight soil samples were selected for laboratory analysis. TPH-d and BTEX were not
detected any of the soil samples analyzed, nor was any hydrocarbon odors noted during the soil
sampling. The laboratory report (MAI Lab ID numbers 02477 through 02484), Quality Control
and Quality Assurance (QA/QC) report and chain-of-custody are included.
UST ABANDONMENT
On 25 February 1999 the diesel UST was backfilled with three-sack mix sand concrete. The
backfill was performed under inspection of the San Joaquin County Public Health Services -
Environmental Health Division(PHS-EHD) and Stockton Fire Prevention(SFP).
On the same day excess tank bottom waste were removed from the tank, piping and storage
barrels. Approximately 100 gallons of rinseate were transported under manifest to Industrial
Services Oil Company in Los Angles, California (State Manifest Document No. 98891620) by
Norcal Oil of Turlock, California.
On 21 December the USTs were triple rinsed by AGE, using a pressure washer and an alconox
solution. The liquid contents of the USTs were removed. Approximately 250 gallons of rinseate
were transported under manifest to Industrial Services Oil Company in Los Angles, California
(State Manifest Document No. 98891636)by Norcal Oil of Turlock, California.
