BEAUDREAU INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
' BEAUDREAU ELECTRONICS INC. FOR •TAMdn
MODEL •04 PUMP CUTOFF
1. Unpack unit and check for shipping damage.
2. The model 404 pump cutoff system consists of two components, the 404-4 controller and
404-4 sensor.
3. The controller, which has 7 wires extending from the end of a 1/2" nipple, must be first
connected to either the junction box of the dispenser or the submersible pump as follows and
as shown in Figures#la and #1b.
A. Dispenser:
(i) Shut off the power to the dispenser. This is extremely important not only to avoid
possible electrocution, but also to prevent any sparks occurring in the presence of gaso-
line vapors and thereby causing an explosion.
(ii) Remove the cover from the junction box and locate a spare threaded hub.
Remove the plug from the hub and if needed install a reducing bushing so that you have
a 1/2" threaded opening.
(iii) Feed the 7 wires through this opening and thread the 1/2" nipple into a hub.
Tighten the nipple.using a wrench on the nipple and not the body of the controller.
(iv) Connect the wires as shown in Figure#2.
(v) The sensor should now be plugged into the 4-wire female plug on the end of the
controller. Cover the plugs with electrical tape.
WARNING: Never plug or unplug the sensor unless the controller is
de-energized. Doing so will damage the unit and void the warranty.
(vi) Position the sensor in the bottom of the container at whatever level you want the
dispenser to be shutdown. Remember that the unit will shut down when liquid rises to
a point 3/8" above the bottom of the sensor. The excess cable should be looped and
secured with a tie-wrap so that the sensor is suspended at the appropriate position.
Many containment pans have a sump for locating the sensor. Remember to reset the
sensor as it may have latched on during shipping or installation. This is done by
inserting the reset tool through the hole in the top of the sensor and gantly pushing the
float down until it unlatches.
(vii) Turn the dispenser power back on after you have replaced the junction box cover.
The dispenser should now operate normally.
(viii) To test the cutoff, insert the sensor into a cup of water. The dispenser should shut
down when the sensor is placed into at least 3/8" of water. To return power to the
pump, remove the sensor from the water and reset the sensor. This is done by
inserting the reset tool through the hole in the top of the sensor andeg Wily pushing the
float down until it unlatches. Reposition the sensor in the sump.
NOTE: If controller relay cycles or oscillates when sensor is tripped, it is likely that the
controller is switching its own power. Check the appropriate wiring diagram to confirm
that controller is wired properly. Make sure that the orange/black,red and black wires
are tied to power from the breaker and the orange wire feeds the dispenser.
