HAZARvOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT BRANCH
ABANDONED SITE PROJECT
SITE INFORMATION SUMMARY
San Joaquin County
Site Name: Amador Chemical Corporation
Location: 4801 E. Carpenter Road
Stockton, CA 95205
Contact: Raymond Drew, Manager
(209) 466-2215
Staff Responsible: A. Schmit, J. Henley
History and Problem:
Amador Chemical has been operating at this site since 1977. The company
compounds powdered and liquid detergents and repackages solvent. Some
of the chemicals handled at this site include:
Ethyl Alcohol Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl- Ether
Ethyl Acetate Isopropyl Alcohol
Methanol Methyl Ethyl Ketone
Methylene Chloride 1, 1, 1, Trichloroethane
Ethylene Glycol Acetone
Diacetone Alcohol
Wastes generated from operations at Amador are sent to three, of six,
evaporation ponds (the other three are for storm water run-off) . The
waste ponds are all lined with various combinations of bentonite, plastic
and asphalt/concrete.
Subsequent sampling. and analysis indicate the presence of:
3 - Methyl hexane Ethyl cyclo hexane
3 - Methyl heptane A - Xylene
Ethyl benzene Butyl cyclo octane
CB/C9 alkanes 2,2 Diraethyl butane,
as waste constituents being discharged to the ponds. (These samples were
taken from a bentonite and plastic lined pond; see sample/field report
dated 8-18-82.)
The Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB) is aware of the ponds
at Amador although there are no Waste Discharge Requirements for this site.
Staff at RWQCB. has noted that company representatives claim the water at
Amador (supplied by a well on the south side of the property) tastes
"peculiar" and suggested sampling of the well water. ASP staff found no
evidence of the sampling by any agency.
