CW
i
Mr.M. Scott Mansholt-Ch'ron Environmental Management Corporation Page 4
Pombo Property-Soil and Groundwater Investigation Work Plan July 31,2003
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX, EPA Method 8021B);
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as crude (TPHc, EPA Method 8015
modified); and
• Polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PNAs, EPA Method 8270C Select Ion
Monitoring [SIM]).
Task 2—Groundwater Sampling
Grab groundwater samples will be collected in each boring where water is present in
sufficient volume to fill containers. No grab groundwater sample will be collected from a
boring where petroleum impacted soil was encountered in the soil core or if a sheen is
visible on the water surface. The groundwater samples will be collected using either
disposable polyethylene or decontaminated, reusable stainless steel bailers. The grab
groundwater samples will be submitted to Friedman & Bruya under SAIC chain of
custody protocol, for the following chemical analyses:
• BTEX (EPA Method 8021B);
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel (TPHd, EPA Method 8015
modified); and
• PNAs (EPA Method 8270C [SIM]).
Between borings, the sampling tubes and any other non-dedicated sampling equipment
will be decontaminated to prevent the possibility of cross contamination of soils or
groundwater.
Excess soil from the soil borings and decontamination fluids will be drummed on site and
will be properly disposed of by ChevronTexaco in accordance with California State and
Federal regulations.
Open boreholes will be abandoned at the conclusion of sampling. Under the supervision
of a San Joaquin Environmental Health District(SJEHD) inspector, SAIC field teams
will use a tremie pipe to place cement grout from the total depth of the boring to within
12 inches of the ground surface. The remaining interval will be backfilled with structural
material sufficient to support an asphalt patch. All borehole locations will be recorded
with a global positioning system (GPS) unit.
Task 3 —Reporting
A letter report will be provided to ChevronTexaco to document the results of the soil
sampling and analyses. The report will be delivered within 30 days of SAIC's receipt of
the analytical data. The letter report will include:
i
