3.2 DRILLING AND SOIL SAMPLING
L Field work will be performed by TRC personnel under the direct supervision of a California
Registered Geologist (RG) or a Professional Civil Engineer(PE).
2. Prior to drilling, well construction permits will be obtained from the San Joaquin County
Public Health Services Environmental Health Division. Underground Services Alert(USA)
will be notified to assess the potential presence of underground pipelines or utilities.
3. The boreholes will be drilled using a truck-mounted hollow-stern auger drilling rig. Soil
samples will be collected at 10-foot vertical intervals using a split barrel drive sampler lowered
through the hollow-stem auger. Samples from each depth will be retained in three 6-inch-long
brass tubes. The lower sample tubes will be retained for visual inspection and field testing fox-
volatile
orvolatile organic vapors using a photoionization detector(PID).
33 WELL COMPLETION,DEVELOPMENT AND SAMPLING
1. The monitoring wells will be completed to a depth of approximately 110 feet, depending on the
depth to first ground water. The wells will be constructed of 2-inch-diameter Schedule 40
polyvinyl chloride (PVC)casing with flush threaded connections. The wells will be
constructed by installation of perforated casing(0.01-inch machine cut slots) from a depth of
approximately 10 feet above the top of the water to a depth of 10 feet into the saturated zone.
Blank casing will be installed from the ground surface to the perforated interval. The annulus
will be packed with Grade 212 sand placed to 3 feet above the top of the perforated casing. A
bentonite seal, approximately S feet thick, will be placed on top of the sand filter pack and the
remaining annular space will be sealed with neat cement/bentonite slurry mix. The well head
will,be completed by installation of a traffic cover and a locking well cap. In addition, the
monitoring wells will be protected by the construction of three traffic bollards placed in a
triangular pattern around each well.
2. After completion of the wells, the elevation of the well tops will be surveyed relative to a known
local benchmark.
7
3. Ground water elevations will be measured in each well using an electric sounder. The depth
will be recorded on the field activity report and/or as appropriate monitoring data sheet.
4 TRC
cwtomer-Focused ScJo+ ny
0 'd S0:8 i0. q uer
