LEVI N E•FRICKE
compounds 4 , 4-DDT (0. 14 ppm) , 2,4-DDT (0.'1036 ppm) , 4, 4 DDE
(0.023) and 4 ,4-DDD (0.021) were detected in Q-6. The sums of
the DDT-related compounds in these samples (0{. 026 and 0. 22) are
considerably below the TTLC. DDT and related: compounds were not
detected in any of the other four samples. submitted for analysis
(Q-4, Q-7, Q-10, Q--11) . With the exception of Q-3, Dieldrin was
not detected in any of the soil samples analyzed.
The above results indicate that the soil ;l'in the vicinity of the
h Quonset but affected by concentrations of DDT'.related compounds
above the cumulative TTLC is relatively l,ocal, ized to an area less
than approximately 20 by 20 feet near the entrance to the Quonset
l but.
1 ,
Fuel" Tanks
3I -
In the vicinity of the former underground storage tank location,
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) as' diesel fuel were detected
in the soil sample collected from WS-6 at. 1.5.# feet below grade at
l 26 ppm. Toluene was detected in the 1.5 ,foot1soil sample at 0.2
] ppm, and at the sample collected from 3 feet below grade at 0. 18
ppm. These concentrations are well below, the average "designated
level" for toluene in soils to protect grpund, water (100 ppm) , as
Il established -by the Central Valley RWQCB (J. Marshack, 1987) .
Soil samples were not collected for analysis =from borehole WS-7.
TPH was not detected in the ground-water Isample collected from
WS-6, but toluene was detected at 0.001 mg/l (ppm) . The ground-
water sample collected from borehole WS-7 was` reported to contain
2.7 mg/l TPH as diesel fuel. Benzene, ethylbenzene and xylenes
were not detected in any of the soil or ground-water samples
collected from these two boreholes. Ground water was encountered
at a depth of approximately six .feet below grade in both
boreholes. It must be noted that analysisiresults of samples
collected in this manner are qualitative only and may not
accurately represent the actual cohcentrAions of the compounds
in ground water. Such results indicate the potential presence of
analytes in ground-water, but cannot be compared directly to
numerical standards, action levels or guidelines.
I
Low concentrations of toluene (ranging from 0. 034 to 0. 21 ppm)
were detected in soil samples collected from WS-4 and WS-5, in
the vicinity of the two above-ground diesel fuel tanks. TPH was
not detected in the soil samples collected, nor was TPH or
I toluene detected in the ground-water samples collected from the
two boreholes. i, f
12.3 Northwest Boundary
Volatile organic compounds, base-neutral iland acid extractable
compounds, and petroleum hydrocarbons were not detected in the
-18-
r
