' 0 <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> The following background description is based on information provided to Geocon by Caltrans and <br />' preliminary research performed during an initial site visit <br /> The Site contains several monitoring wells, one of which, MW-14 (located medially between the <br /> ' equipment building and the warehouse), was lowered approximately 0 9 meter (3 feet) to protect it <br /> during the construction of the new maintenance building The area where the well was located was <br /> ' backfilled and paved with asphalt concrete The groundwater beneath the Site is impacted with <br /> petroleum hydrocarbons released from former gasoline and diesel underground storage tanks The <br /> monitoring wells are currently included in a quarterly monitoring program Maximum TPHg, <br /> TPHd, methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) and benzene concentrations of 231,000, 6,100, 96 and <br /> 28,000 micrograms per liter (µg11), respectively, have been reported for water samples collected <br /> ' from the wells The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB) has <br /> directed Caltrans to perform vertical characterization of groundwater contamination <br /> LThe primary contaminants of concern at the Site include total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline <br /> (TPHg), total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total <br /> ' xylenes (BTEX), and methyl tert-butyl ether(MTBE) <br /> 1 <br /> 1 <br /> Project No 58475-06-02 -2- December 26,2001 <br />
