Stantec <br /> January 26, 2009 <br /> Page 2 of 3 <br /> and nature of residual petroleum hydrocarbons (from the former Exxon operations) adsorbed to <br /> soil and dissolved in groundwater at the site. <br /> Health and Safety <br /> Stantec will generate a site-specific Health and Safety Plan (HASP) for the proposed scope of <br /> work as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) Standard <br /> "Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response" guidelines (29 CFR 1910.120). The <br /> document will be reviewed and signed by all Stantec personnel and subcontractors prior to <br /> performing work at the site. <br /> Permitting and Utility Clearance <br /> Stantec will obtain appropriate soil boring permits from the SJCEHD prior to conducting <br /> subsurface work at the site. Underground Service Alert (USA) will be contacted to delineate <br /> subsurface piping near the site with surface markings and a private utility locator service will be <br /> contracted to clear the area surrounding the proposed boring locations. <br /> DIRECT- PUSH SOIL BORING INSTALLATION <br /> Soil Boring, Soil Sampling and Analysis <br /> Stantec will supervise the advancement of four direct push soil borings (GP-1 through GP-4) at <br /> the locations shown on Figure 2. The first five feet of each boring will be advanced via hand <br /> auger. Below 5 ft bgs, the borings will be advanced using a truck-mounted rig equipped with a <br /> 2-inch diameter Macro Core® sampling device to a total depth of approximately 20 feet bgs. <br /> Soil samples will be continuously cored starting at 5 feet bgs and samples will be collected as <br /> outlined in Table 1. Down hole drilling equipment will be cleaned before advancing each <br /> borehole, and sampling equipment will be cleaned between each sampling interval. Each soil <br /> sample will be screened for hydrocarbon vapors using a portable photoionization detector(PID). <br /> Soils encountered during drilling will be logged using the Unified Soil Classification System by a <br /> Stantec field geologist, working under the supervision of a California registered geologist. <br /> Soil samples will be collected using a 2-inch by four-foot long core barrel containing a 1.75-inch <br /> diameter clear acrylic sample tube. Selected soil samples retained for analysis will be sealed <br /> with Teflon® sheeting and plastic caps, labeled and placed on ice in an insulated container for <br /> delivery under chain-of-custody documentation (COC) to Kiff Analytical (Kiff) located in Davis, <br /> California. Soil samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), <br /> benzene, toluene, ethyl-benzene, and total xylenes (BTEX), methyl tertiary butyl ether (MtBE), <br /> tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl ether (EtBE), <br /> and tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA) by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 8260B. In <br /> addition, the samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as motor oil (TPHo) by <br /> EPA Method 8015M. <br /> Groundwater Sampling and analysis <br /> Following the soil sampling activities, grab groundwater samples will be also be collected from <br /> each boring. After collection of the deepest soil sample of each boring, a temporary poly vinyl <br /> chloride (PVC) 0.75-inch-diameter 0.02-inch-slot well screen will be lowered within the direct <br /> push rods. The rods will then be raised to a point above the current depth to water and water <br /> will be allowed to enter the casing.
