a .
I
Also the municipal wlells. that provide this
water are in the range from 250 to 350 feet
deep so they are drawinglwater from a much
lower level. The contaminants that have been
found have impacted Iliminimally the shallow
ground water. The areal is very shallow,
currently at about 15 feet, so there is a G
significant distance between the water that
has been impacted and the water that is
supplying the actualll drinking water. The
water tower, which all of you are familiar
with that is right there at the site, receives
water from the Lincolni Village system and the
wells that provide that water are on the east
side of I-5 off of I Calhoun. Exxon has a
picture here if you would like to see it.
As you can see, the site ;location is at the
corner of Grigsby and Benjamin Holt. The
City of Stockton has two wells in Swenson golf
course and the one on Belmont is the closest
Lincoln Village well, Those are the closest
municipal wells to this site and all of those
have been tested. All :of them are free of any
contaminants including the lead levels which
are also below detection limits, so there is
no lead in the water ysystem. Generally in
areas that are supplied by, municipal systems,
you have the extra safeguard that thane
systems are constantly being monitored by the
State in order to make sure' that there are not
any contaminates. .They; are required to
monitor for both volatile ;1organics and other
constituents that are of Health concern on a
routine basis.
'f
4. QUESTION: What brought about this activity in March of
1991 ? Was there a problemjrat that time ?
EXXON 'k
RESPONSE: Initially, the investigation that started at
this station was because we had decided not to
operate the site. We 'decilded to surplus the
property, not related to any incident or
release of that sort, so the initial
investigation was done'. We did a second phase
of the investigation, as Mike Infurna spoke
to, and the operation of actually taking the
tanks out of the ground is, just a normal part
of closing up a station :;where you are not
going to continue operations. You are only
given a certain length lof time which, I
believe in the State of California is a year,
