basically we will continue our misting and our
_ engineering controls during the excavation
process for our soil remediation to prevent
any problems.
7. QUESTION: Is Public Health Services involved in the
EHD testing activity that Exxon is performing ?
RESPONSE: EHD staff is involved from the stand point
that they review the work plans and comment on
what sampling is being proposed. In addition,
our staff is at the site during the time the
samples are being collected to verify that the
necessary protocols are followed and to make
sure that the samples are in fact valid. The
analyses are run, as Mike mentioned, by a
State Certified lab. We receive copies of the
analytical reports along with the complete
geologic report on the site. Our staff does
not actually collect the samples but we do
oversee the collection and verify that they
are being collected properly, transported and
maintained so that they do not lose integrity
before they are analyzed.
EXXON'S
COMMENT: In addition to that, when I am out there, I am
a registered geologist. I 'm out there sampling
and Mike Infurna's out there giving
directions so he is heavily involved in the
process. At that point, we follow the EPA
protocol for chain of custody, in other words,
the samples are then transported under very
strict EPA procedures to California certified
laboratories. At this point, we're using CASE
Laboratories which is -a national laboratory
that has a quality control and quality
assurance program. It's an independent testing
laboratory and they supply the results to us.
S. QUESTION: What kind of constituents are in the soil
that's now stockpiled that may be harmful?
EHD
RESPONSE: Exxon prepares a report that will tell what is
in the soil that has been stockpiled and and
we will review that as part of our process of
approving their additional work on the site.
In addition, when they have completed all
their remediation work, they will submit a
report describing everything that occurred.
Your particular question has to do with
whether there's something coming off that pile
