that may be causing a health problem. As Jim
mentioned, they have done air monitoring, and
- part of that monitoring is designed to
determine if there is something coming off of
the pile. One of our major concerns is the
threat to groundwater which is a little
different from the threat to having something
released to the air that causing a problem.
When we have the results of the tank removal
activities and we know what was in the pile,
we will know whether there is any problem with
the soil and whether it can be kept uncovered
or has to be kept covered. We work with the
Air Pollution Control District in making those
determinations. At this point we have no
evidence, because they have done air
monitoring. . . we have no evidence that there
are contaminates coming off the pile that
could be causing any health risk.
9 . QUESTION: How safe is the current fencing surrounding
the site ? Will it prevent someone from
getting into the site or falling into the
excavation?
EXXON
RESPONSE: An independent fencing company owns the fence
and repairs it. Every time we hear that it's
down or when we are out there doing our
routine activities, we call them immediately
to repair the fence. In the past two or three
days it has already gone down twice so we are
looking into ways to improve it so that it
doesn't happen again.
QUESTION: Will both stockpiles be there at the same time?
EXXON
RESPONSE: Our goal is to sample pile #1 on Friday and
our goal is to remove that once we get the
results. There may be some overlap between the
time they're there but out goal is to remove
pile #1 as soon as we can.
QUESTION: How big is pile 01?
EXXON
RESPONSE: Approximately 500 cubic yards.
QUESTION: And the next one is 800 yards?
EXXON
RESPONSE: No that is a combined total, so there will be
two piles approximately 400 cubic yards.
