Plan
Brookside
Investigation Work Pl
Brookside Estates,Stockton,California 1/9/07 Sert Consulting,Inc.
1.0 INTRODUCTION
' This site specific Field Investigation Work Plan has been prepared by Sert Consulting Inc. (SERT)for
Caufteld, Davies, Donahue, LLP to describe the field investigation and data collection methods for the
retrieval of soil and groundwater samples beneath the roadways within the Brookside Estates subdivisions
i in Stockton, California(Figure 1). The owners within this complex consist of the Brookside Master
Association,Brookside Lake Community Association, and Brookside Golf Community Association. The
work is being performed to obtain soil and groundwater samples for laboratory testing related to the
geotechnical conditions at these sites.
1.1 Background
' The Brookside Estates subdivisions were constructed over the period of 1990-2003. Significant
pavement heave has been observed beneath many of the roadways within this complex. The cause of this
1 heaved condition is undetermined. The intent of this investigation is to retrieve soil samples from both
disturbed and undisturbed soils beneath the roadways and sample the groundwater for natural chemical
content. These samples will be tested offsite by a contracted testing laboratory.
' 1.2 Description of Site Conditions and Locations
The Brookside Estates complex appears to be a normal residential site development. Individual
' subdivisions have been constructed as development progresses, and each subdivision consists primarily of
one or two gated entrances into a series of houses constructed along an interior loop roadway, with
appurtenant courts and cul-de-sacs as infill construction. The roadway pavement appears to be riddled
with cracks and uplifted pavement which generally appear to coincide with the location of buried utility
corridors. Subsurface utilities include buried electric supply lines, natural gas pipelines, both sanitary
storm sewer pipelines, and communications conduits. Locally, the pavement appears to have experienced
both uplift and subsidence resulting in differential settlement.
We understand that the constructed conditions within the roadways is as follows:
• The site was rough graded with naturally occurring soils in the area
• The subsurface utilities were installed before lime treatment
• The road alignments were treated with lime for stabilization to a depth of approximately 18
' inches prior to paving
• The pavement was applied directly over these treated soils to a thickness of approximately 4
inches. Aggregate base was not used in addition to soil treatment.
The street address adjacent to the roadway for each drilling location is:
Address Location #
Brook Hollow Subdivision
6319 Brook Hollow Circle,Lot 1858 1
6331/6337 Brook Hollow Circle, Lot 1856/55 2
Nostalgia Subdivision
1 5513 Vintage Circle, Lot 2210 1
5514 Vintage Circle,Lot 2230
5546 Vintage Circle, Lot 2267 3
' Poppy Hills Subdivision
5174 Poppy Hills Circle,Lot 3859 1
5237 Poppy Hills Circle, Lot 3848 2
1
