_P UBLIC HEALTH SERVICES
SAN f OAQUIN COUNTY Q= ca
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION
Karen Furst, M.D., M.P.H., Health Officer P
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor • Stockton, CA 95202
209/468-3420
n
BUTCH SCHMIDT
(DFD
STOCKTON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT (SUSD)
1932 EL FINAL DRIVE AL 01
STOCKTON CA 95205
RE: STAGG HIGH SCHOOL SITE CODE. 1C27
1621 BROOKSIDE ROAD
STOCKTON CA 95206
e
A monitoring well screened from 8 feet below surface grade(bsg) to 23 feet bsg was installed in the
center of the former 300-gallon gasoline underground storage tank(UST) at the above referenced site on
February 25, 1999. San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division
(PHS/EHD) has reviewed Summary Report of Additional Subsurface Investigation dated June 1, 1999
prepared by ATC Associates, Inc(ATC). Analytical results of the soil sample collected at 10.5 feet bsg
were 1,900 parts per million (ppm) of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon as gasoline (TPH-g), 7.3 ppm of
Toluene, 18 ppm of Ethyl-benzene, and 120 ppm of Total Xylenes. Analytical results of the soil sample
s taken at 23.5 feet bsg were 2.5 ppm of TPH-g,0.0074 ppm Ethyl-benzene, and 0,045 ppm of Total
Xylenes_ Methyl Cert-Butyl Ether(MTBE) was non-detect at above detection limit in any of the soil
samples. Depth to groundwater during MWA development was measured to be at 9.95 feet bsg.
Analytical results of the water sample collected from MW-1 were 3,900 parts per billion (ppb) of TPH-
g, 86 ppb of Toluene, 100 ppb of Ethyl-benzene, 530 ppb of Total Xvlenes, and 12.5 ppb of MTBE_
Laboratory analyses of soil samples collected from four soil borings advanced in August 1997 indicated
minimal petroleum hydrocarbon presence; however, analytical results of the grab water sample were
30,600 ppb of TPH-g, 20 ppb of Benzene, 1,400 ppb of Toluene, 484 ppb of Ethyl-benzene,and 6,060
ppb of Total Xylenes. PHS/EHD concurs with the ATC's conclusion that the extent of the soil
contamination is limited to the upper 24 feet of soil and within an area eight feet from the former UST
excavation. The necessity of further investigation will be evaluated after additional groundwater
monitoring.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jeffrey Wong at (209) 468-0335.
Donna Heran, REHS,Director
Environmental Health Division
Jeffrey Wong, ftEHS zlgerl io, RENS
J
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
c: RWQCB, Central Valley Region-Mark List
c: ATC Associates Inc. -Tom Lutterman
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care services
