Antonia Vorster -2-
Senior Engineer
4. Sampling and analysis of the four MWs surrounding the former site of a 10,000-
gallon aboveground diesel fuel storage tank in Area 3 detected trace diesel
fuel and toluene concentrations. The polluted soil surrounding the former tank
site was excavated and treated. Fuel component concentrations in the MWs are
lower than detected during the two prior samplings, indicating a probable
declining trend. Therefore, the sites probably are not degrading the
underlying ground water quality.
Sampling and analysis no longer detect water quality degradation because the sites
the MWs were installed to monitor have either been cleaned up (1 ,3) or never
detected pollutants in the ground water (2). Therefore, the following wells can be
abandoned:
1. MWs LF-6, LF-7, LF-8, LF-9, LF-11 and LF-12 in Area 1;
2. MW LF-10 on the Ripkin property;
3. MW LF-5 near the former milk barn site;
4. MWs LF-1 , LF-2, LF-3 and LF-4 surrounding the former aboveground tank site in
Area 3.
