• 28 April 2003
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0440
Page 2 of 7
' Sampling equipment was washed in an Alcon' solution and rinsed with water prior to each
sampling run to avoid cross-contamination. ;
2.2. LOGGING • '
' Soil was extruded from a second'brass sleeve or from the unpreserved portions of the soil in the core
barrel samples and.were screened for the presence of organic vapor using an organic.vapor meter
(OVM) equipped with a photo-ionization detector-(PID: Thermo Environmental 580A,'10.0 eV,
' calibrated to isobutylene), the OVM readings were recorded on the boring log. The soil was then
visually.described in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (see Appendix A).
' 2.3. WELL COMPLETIONS
1 Borings MW7 through MW10 were completed as ground water monitoring wells using two-inch
diameter PVC casing with 0.020-inch slotted screen installed from approximately 5 feet to 25 feet
' bsg and with. blank casing extended to the surface. The ,filter pack (No. 3 Lonestar sand) was
installed from,4 feet to approximately 25 feet bsg.A nominal 2-foot bentonite chip was then installed
above the filter pack and hydrated. Concrete was used to fill the annulus from 1 to 2 feet bsg:Water-
tight,traffic-rated well boxes were then installed over the wells.As-built well diagrams are depicted
on the boring logs in Appendix A.
2.4.' LABORATORY AN OF SOIL SAMPLES ;
Selectedsoil samples.were analyzed for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as-gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
' ' Method 8015 Modified;
Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes'(BTEX) in accordance with EPA Method
' 8260; and
• Fuel additives,'including, methyl.tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), di-isopropyl ether(RIPE),
ethyl tertiary-butyl ether(ETBE),methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE),'teirtiary-amylmeIthyl
ether (TAME), tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA), 1 2-dichloroethane. 1 2-DCA and ethylene
( ) ( )
dibromide (EDB} in accordance withEPA Method 8260.
