' Redevelopment Agency of the City of Stockton Page 5
B34602.01
5.2 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map Review Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps drawn in 1895,
1917, 1950, and 1972 depict the SITE developed as it exists today, occupied by numerous
residential structures and some structures occupied by commercial businesses. According the
Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps, the structures which occupy Parcels 1, 6, 15, 16, 17, 38 have
housed various commercial businesses including stores, automotive service businesses, carpet
cleaning and awning storage businesses, automotive paint and body repair businesses, a
blacksmith, a machine shop, a upholstery shop, and a feed store over time. No notations
indicating the use of USTs on-SITE were found in the Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps reviewed.
5.3 Review of Historical City Directories Historical city directories for the city of Stockton
were reviewed at five year intervals for the years 1940 through 1990. Like the Sanborn Fire
Insurance Maps, the historical city directories indicate that most of the SITE has been in
residential use, occupied by single-family dwellings and apartment buildings, while some of the
addresses list commercial tenants. A list of the commercial tenants is 13resented in Table 6, below.
TABLE 6
COMMERCIAL TENANTS IDENTIFIED IN 111STORICPt V .-TY DIRE iQRT S
ppgI tt:
TENANT
ADDRESS
'
1 300 California Street service station 1950-19851990
automotive service/re air
' 2 528 Lafayette Street temple 1945
1950-1955
restaurant 1960-1990
beau[ sho
' 6 323 American Street auto body repair 1945-1990
1960
15 328 California Street carpet cleaning/awning repair and storage 1940-1965
Salvation Army 1980-1990
automotive radiator re air
16 310 California Street truck rental
1950-1970
'
17 302 American Street erocer store 1940-1980
1965
33 328 American Street used ciothine 1990
Church of God
38 732 Lafayette Street automotive painter 1940-1965
1970
vacant
