15 January 2001
AGE-NC Project No 96-0232
' A 2-horsepower, 230-volt, single-phase centrifugal process pump was installed directly behind the
holding tank The process pump is designed to process ground water through the treatment system
at a maximum flow rate of 25 gallons per minute (GPM) From the process pump, 2-inch diameter
' PVC piping (schedule 40) was routed to a 5-gallon suspended solids filter chamber equipped with
25-micron replaceable blown-fabric sediment filter bags
From the filter chamber, schedule 40 PVC piping was routed to two 2,500 pound vessels containing
I granular activated carbon (GAC) and then through two 2,500 pound vessels contairung Sunsolve
media (a liquid phase filtration media) The first two GAC media vessels are designed to adsorb
' TPH-g, TPH-d and BTEX compounds, the final two Sunsolve media vessels are designed to adsorb
MTBE and TBA Brass sampling ports were installed at the influent, between the media vessels and
at the effluent to allow detection of potential media break through and to obtain final discharge
Isamples The ground water pump and treat system layout is depicted in Figures 11 and 12
' A battery operated, F-2000 (model RT) Blue-White Industries flow meter was installed on the
effluent line to continuously measure and display the effluent flow rate and to continuously measure
and display the total flow The flow meter is designed to operate between 6 and 60 gallons per
lie minute
An electrical control panel was installed adjacent the process pump Electrical wiring from the
' ground water extraction pumps, process pump and holding tank float controls were connected from
the through Class I electrical connectors/unction boxes and electrical conduit to the electrical control
panel Electrical PumpTec controller boxes were installed in the electrical control panel for
' individual control measures of extraction well pumps and the process pump Pump controls are
supplied by an amperage sensing/time control switch This switch will detect any decrease in
amperage when water level drops below the inpellor intake from any of the Grundfos pumps
54 OFF-SITE DISCHARGE PIPE-LINE INSTALLATION
' Between 13 and 17 November 2000, an off-site discharge pipe-line was constructed from the
southwest section of the Flag City Chevron site to a conveyance ditch (Coldani ditch) located
' approximately 450 feet south of the site San Joaquin County encroachment permitting, planning and
construction supervision of the discharge pipe-line was performed by Dillon and Murphy Consulting
and Civil Engineers, a California-certified civil engineering firm from Lodi CA Construction of the
' off-site discharge pipe-line was conducted by Crutchfield Construction Company (CCC), a
California-certified contractor from Stockton CA Excavation of the trench-line was performed in
' the southwest section of the Flag City Chevron site and in the San Joaquin County public right-of-
way, a copy of the San Joaquin County encroachment permit is included in Appendix E A backhoe
equipped with a 24-inch bucket was utilized to excavate a trench-line approximately 36 inches deep
' Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
