i
15 January 2001
AGE-NC Project No 96-0232
' by 24 Inches wide From the southwest section of Flag City Chevron, the trench-line was routed
across Capitol Avenue, along the east side (right-of-way) of Thornton Road and to the southeast
corner of Thornton Road and DI Broggi Road
A 24-inch diameter concrete riser was installed to five feet bsg at the southeast corner of Thornton
Road and DI Broggi Road, the riser was attached to an existing underground concrete culvert that
extends beneath Thornton Road to the Coldani ditch
Two-inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC piping (discharge piping) was installed in the trench-line,
approximately 36 Inches bsg, routed from Flag City Chevron to the concrete riser and connected to
the underground concrete culvert which connects to the Coldani ditch The trench areas across
' Capitol Avenue and DI Broggi Road were resurfaced with asphalt, all other trench areas were
backfilled with native soil The off-site discharge piping system layout is depicted in Figure 13
I6.0. GROUND WATER PUMP AND TREAT SYSTEM START-UP PERIOD
' Between 09 and 20 November 2000, AGE initiated a ground water pump and treat start-up period
to test the efficiency of the ground water pump and treat system and to verify treatment of petroleum-
impacted. water During this time, approximately 31,750 gallons of ground water was selectively
extracted from wells EW-2, EWA EW-5, EW-6, EW-7, EW-8, EW-9 and EW-10 and processed
through the on-site treatment system Treated effluent water was routed directly into a 5,900-gallon
above ground Baker storage tank awaiting transportation to Invirotec of Lincoln, California, a
properly certified disposal facility
' 61 BACKGROUND SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
On 22 November 2000, and prior to discharge of any treated water into the Coldani ditch, a
I representative of AGE collected a background soil sample (Canal-1) from the Coldani ditch, the
sampling location was approximately 5 feet west of the Thornton Road underground concrete
culvert The soil sample was collected at a depth of approximately 1 foot below surface grade (bsg)
' The soil sample was collected utilizing 2-inch diameter by 3-Inch long brass sleeves loaded inside
a stainless steel slide-hammer Following soil sample collection, the sample was logged on a Cham-
' of-custody form and transported in a chilled container to McCampbell Analytical Inc , a DHS-
certified laboratory for the following analysis
' • TPH-g In accordance with EPA Methods 8015M/5030, and
• BTEX with MTBE in accordance with EPA Method 8020,
' Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
I
