23 March 2000
AGE-NC Project No 96-0232
proposes to drill and install one six-inch diameter ground water extraction well with a dedicated low-
flow ground water pump and initiate on-site interim remediation utilizing a "pump and treat"
technology Drilling and mtenm remediation activities will consist of the following tasks
• Permitting and pre-field work activities,
• Drilling and well installation,
• Dedicated ground water pump installation,
• Pumping and temporarily storing produced ground water,
• Properly disposing of produced ground water,
• Preparation of monthly reports
3 1 PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained from the PHS-EHD In addition, an update to
the health and safety plan presently on-file will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety
and Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health Administration, U S Coast Guard and U S Environmental
Protection Agency, 1985) Prior to mobilization, the ground water extraction well location will be
clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert
32 DRILLING AND WELL INSTALLATION
AGE proposes to install one sax-inch diameter ground water extraction well to supplement antenm
remediation activities at the site The proposed ground water extraction well will be placed in the
area of highest known ground water MTBE contamination at the site Based on the MTBE-impact
encountered in Flag City Chevron shallow ground water monitoring wells, AGE proposes a sax-inch
diameter ground water extraction well to be located between 10 and 20 feet west of ground water
monitoring well MW-1 (See Figure 2)
Following installation, the extraction well will be developed to maximize water flow into the well
and minimize the amount of fine-grained sediment drawn into the well during pumping or bailing
Procedures for well installation and development are presented in Sections 4 2 and 4 3, respectively
Advanced GeoEn.lronmenlal,Inc
