Ms. Victoria McCartney
June 13, 2003
Page 2
WELL DESTRUCTIONS
Between January 6 and 9, 2003, SECOR directed Spectrum Exploration Incorporated (Spectrum) of !
Stockton California, as they destroyed nine groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2, MW-4,
MW-9, MW-9A, MW-9S, MW-10, MW-11, and MW-12), and four ozone sparge well pairs (0S-1S/1D,
OS-2S/2D, OS-3S/3D, and OS-4S/4D). The wells were destroyed to prevent incurred damage from
demolition activities which could jeopardize the integrity of the wells. The wells were properly
destroyed in accordance with San Joaquin County Well Standards section 13.17 and under the
supervision of Ms. Victoria McCartney of SJCEHD.
PRODUCT LINE, DISPENSER ISLAND, AND UST REMOVAL
Between February 11 and 28, 2003, Musco Excavators Incorporated (Musco) of Santa Rosa
California, removed all aboveground and subsurface facilities from the site. On February 24, 2003,
the dispenser islands, product lines, and USTs were excavated and removed. SECOR collected soil
samples beneath the dispenser islands, product lines, and USTs as directed by Ms. Dina Abate of
the SJCEHD. Sampling locations are shown on Figure 2. Field and laboratory procedures are
presented in Attachment 1.- Laboratory analytical reports and chain-of-custody documentation are
presented in Attachment 2.- Documentation of the transport and disposal of the piping and USTs can
be obtained from Musco.
Dispenser Island Removal
Based on field photo ionization detector (PID) readings, SECOR was directed by SJCEHD to not
collect soil samples beneath the former dispenser islands.
Product Line Removal
Five soil samples were collected at approximately 2-1/2 feet below ground surface (bgs) beneath the
product lines. Soil sample analytical data is presented in Table 1. Total petroleum hydrocarbons as
gasoline (TPHg) were detected in one sample (PL2-1) at a concentration of 2.4 milligrams per
kilogram (mg/kg). No additional petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in any soil samples
collected beneath the product lines.
Gasoline UST Removal
All three 10,000-gallon USTs appeared to be in good condition with no visible signs of cracks or
holes. In addition, no evidence of staining was noted beneath the USTs. Six soil samples were
collected at approximately 20-1/2 feet bgs beneath the former gasoline underground storage tanks.
Soil analytical data is presented in Table 2. Petroleum hydrocarbons were not detected in samples
UST1-1, UST1-2, UST2-1, and UST3-1 . Total xylenes were detected in sample UST3-2 at a
concentration of 0.002 mg/kg. Methyl tertiary butyl ether (MtBE) was detected in samples UST2-2
(0.018 mg/kg) and UST3-2 (0.065 mg/kg).• Tertiary butyl ether (TBA) was detected in sample UST3-
2 at a concentration of 1.9 mg/kg. Tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME) was detected in samples
UST2-2 (0.001 mg/kg) and UST3-2 (0.013 mg/kg). No additional petroleum hydrocarbons were
detected in any of the soil samples collected.
I:1Chevron1905571REPORTS19-0557 Station Demo&Well destruction Report-REVB.doc
