•
Environmental Site Assessment
APN 137-31-10, 11, 12, 13, 14. 16,and 17
Page 7
3.2 AREA HISTORICAL USE
Aerial photos, Sanborn Maps, Stockton City Directories and the USGS quadrangle map for the area were
used to investigate historical use. Aerial photos and Sanborn Maps were used at the San Joaquin
Historical Society and Museum. Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps were also used at The University of the
Pacific Holt-Atherton Special Collections Library. Stockton City Directories were used at the Cesar-
Chavez Central Library in Stockton, California.
3.2.1 Aerial Photographs
Condor reviewed two available historic aerial photographs of the Site and surrounding area at the San
Joaquin Historical Society and Museum. The aerial photographs were taken in 1957 and 1963. The
photos indicated that the Site contained small and large brick and wood frame buildings.
The area two blocks south of the Site contained two large natural gas storage tanks between Sonora and
Church streets with one large tank between Church and Hazelton. There was a possible wrecking yard to
the southeast of the Site between Sonora and Church and EI Dorado and Center streets.
Tile northeast corner of the Site contained a large building with a small building in between. The
northwest corner indicated four small buildings on the north side of Lafayette. The southwest block was
vacant. The southeast corner indicated an auto shop with a small building and several trees in the back.
3.2.2 USGS 7.5 Minute Topographic and Historical Maps
The Stockton West, USGS 7.5 Minute Topographic Quadrangle Map (1979) was reviewed for historical
use. The Sanborn maps, however, are the best resource for reviewing historical data. Sanborn Fire
Insurance maps indicate building materials, hydrants, windows, stairs, gas tanks, pipes, elevators,
sprinklers and more and were utilized by Condor in reviewing the Site history.
4.0 INFORMATION FROM SITE RECONNAISSANCE AND INTERVIEWS
In July 2000, Condor personnel visited the Site to obtain information regarding recognized environmental
conditions in connection with current and past uses of the property. Persons with knowledge of the Site
were questioned about past and present practices and conditions that may indicate the presence of
environmental hazards. A discussion of observations and information obtained from Site visits and
interviews are presented in the following sections.
4.1 HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES IN CONNECTION WITH IDENTIFIED USES
(INCLUDING STORAGE,HANDLING,AND DISPOSAL)
No hazardous substances connected with identified uses were identified or observed at the Site.
4.2 HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE CONTAINERS AND UNIDENTIFIED SUBSTANCE
CONTAINERS (INCLUDING STORAGE,HANDLING,AND DISPOSAL)
No hazardous substance containers were observed at the Site.
n
tJ CONDOR
