11 <br /> I <br /> C A M B R I A <br /> i <br /> Oxygenate Analyses PHSIEHD states in their April 17, 2000 letter that we have failed to <br /> report analyses for gasoline oxygenates and lead scavengers These analyses have not been <br /> reported because the analyses have not been performed Since we had not received approval <br /> from PHSIEHD to implement our August 26, 1999 work plan (as discussed above), we did not <br /> proceed with these analyses <br /> Now that we have conditional approval of our work plan, we plan to perform analyses for <br /> gasoline oxygenates (methyl tertiary butyl ether [MTBE], tertiary butyl alcohol [TBA], di- <br /> isopropyl ether [DIPE], ethyl tertiary butyl ether [ETBE], and tertiary amyl methyl ether <br /> [TAME]) and lead scavengers (ethylene dibromide [EDB] and 1,2-dichloroethane [1,2-DCA]) <br /> on groundwater samples collected from this site We do not propose to analyze groundwater <br /> samples for methanol or ethanol as we do not have any reason to suspect either of these <br /> compounds was ever stored at this site <br /> We will perform analysis for gasoline oxygenates and lead scavengers on groundwater samples <br /> during the next regular quarterly groundwater sampling event after which we will evaluate the <br /> need to continue these analyses <br /> PHSIEHD requested that we perform analyses for gasoline oxygenates and lead scavengers on <br /> all soil samples collected at this site This is potentially a lot of extra chemical analyses that <br /> may not be warranted We propose to review the groundwater analytical data from the next <br /> quarterly groundwater sampling event to determine if gasoline oxygenates and lead scavengers <br /> are present at the site If they are not present in groundwater samples collected from site <br /> wells, then this suggests the plume does not contain gasoline oxygenates and lead scavengers <br /> We would then propose not to perform gasoline oxygenates and lead scavengers analyses on <br /> all soil samples collected during our proposed investigation If gasoline oxygenates and/or <br /> lead scavengers are detected in groundwater samples from the wells then we will evaluate the <br /> need to analyze soil samples from the proposed borings for the detected compounds <br /> Soil Vapor Extraction System Evaluation PHSIEHD is requiring we perform and assessment <br /> of the soil vapor extraction (SVE) system that has operated at this site and also to assess any <br /> potential enhancement of this system that may be warranted Cambria will assess the <br /> performance of the SVE system and prepare a report, which will be issued to PHSIEHD by <br /> June 16, 2000 <br /> i <br /> 1399 4 <br />
