11
I
C A M B R I A
i
Oxygenate Analyses PHSIEHD states in their April 17, 2000 letter that we have failed to
report analyses for gasoline oxygenates and lead scavengers These analyses have not been
reported because the analyses have not been performed Since we had not received approval
from PHSIEHD to implement our August 26, 1999 work plan (as discussed above), we did not
proceed with these analyses
Now that we have conditional approval of our work plan, we plan to perform analyses for
gasoline oxygenates (methyl tertiary butyl ether [MTBE], tertiary butyl alcohol [TBA], di-
isopropyl ether [DIPE], ethyl tertiary butyl ether [ETBE], and tertiary amyl methyl ether
[TAME]) and lead scavengers (ethylene dibromide [EDB] and 1,2-dichloroethane [1,2-DCA])
on groundwater samples collected from this site We do not propose to analyze groundwater
samples for methanol or ethanol as we do not have any reason to suspect either of these
compounds was ever stored at this site
We will perform analysis for gasoline oxygenates and lead scavengers on groundwater samples
during the next regular quarterly groundwater sampling event after which we will evaluate the
need to continue these analyses
PHSIEHD requested that we perform analyses for gasoline oxygenates and lead scavengers on
all soil samples collected at this site This is potentially a lot of extra chemical analyses that
may not be warranted We propose to review the groundwater analytical data from the next
quarterly groundwater sampling event to determine if gasoline oxygenates and lead scavengers
are present at the site If they are not present in groundwater samples collected from site
wells, then this suggests the plume does not contain gasoline oxygenates and lead scavengers
We would then propose not to perform gasoline oxygenates and lead scavengers analyses on
all soil samples collected during our proposed investigation If gasoline oxygenates and/or
lead scavengers are detected in groundwater samples from the wells then we will evaluate the
need to analyze soil samples from the proposed borings for the detected compounds
Soil Vapor Extraction System Evaluation PHSIEHD is requiring we perform and assessment
of the soil vapor extraction (SVE) system that has operated at this site and also to assess any
potential enhancement of this system that may be warranted Cambria will assess the
performance of the SVE system and prepare a report, which will be issued to PHSIEHD by
June 16, 2000
i
1399 4
