' • k'■ KLEINFELDER
3. EXCAVATION AND ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES
Field sampling, data review and report writing will be conducted under the supervision of a
registered geologist and engineer. Soil and water samples will be collected by an experience
environmental geologist or technician. Samples will be collected and handled according to
Kleinfelder's Field Protocol included in Appendix A.
Samples selected for analysis will be submitted under chain of custody to Clayton Environmental
Laboratory Services in Pleasanton. Clayton Laboratories is certified by the California
Department of Toxic Substances Control for the analysis requested. The samples will be
analyzed on a standard 10 day turnaround schedule for the following constituents:
• TPH extractable by Modified EPA Method 8015
' 0 Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylenes (BTEX) by EPA Method 5030/8020
' 3.1 SOIL EXCAVATION SERVICES
' Excavation services will be provided by a qualified environmental contractor selected by
Independent Trucking Company or Kleinfelder. The contractor will be responsible for the
engineering and safety of the excavation. Kleinfelder will have a geotechnical engineer available
to monitor the excavation as needed. At this time, special shoring or sidewall sloping are not
anticipated to be required for this site.
' Each of the six surface samples from the soil borings had petroleum hydrocarbons detected. It is
anticipated that this is surface staining and is only present to a depth of 1 to 2 feet. The top 3 feet
of the entire aboveground tank area (225 inplace cubic yards) will be excavated and removed
from the site. The excavation activities will then focus on the impacted soil detected in the
' vicinity of boring AB-3. Soil in this area will be excavated to a depth of 15 feet. This is the
depth were a nondetect sample was collected from boring AB-3. It is anticipated that an
additional 200 inplace cubic yards of soil be excavated and removed.
' 23-482276-B00/CR96S070 Page 4 of 8 June 26, 1996
Copyright 1996 Kleinfelder,Inc.
