water entry had occurred to fill 2 VOA' s and a 1 liter bottle
They were labeled and placed on ice The probe unit was
mobilized on the location previously marked for SP-5, (See PLATE
II, ) and soil samples were taken at 5 ' intervals from 5 ' bgl to
25 ' bg1 using field procedures described earlier. Tools were
pushed to 32 ' bgl and water samples collected for analysis .
After decontaminating equipment, the probe truck was set up on
SP-6, and soil samples were collected at 5 ' intervals from 5 ' bgl
to 25 ' bgl as described earlier. The tools were pushed to 31 '
and water samples were collected and preserved using previously
described field protocol .
After decontaminating equipment, the truck was mobilized on
location SP-7 (PLATE II , ) and soil samples were taken at the same
depths as SP-6 . The tools were then advanced to 30 ' bgl, and
water samples were collected & preserved.
The preserved soil & water samples were transferred to Sherwood
Labs personel under chain of custody & delivered to the lab with
instructions to analyze for BTEX (w/MBTE distinction, ) TPHg, &
TEPH. The three soil probes were grouted with cement and
operations ceased for the day. There was no detectable odor in
any of the soil samples, but a strong diesel odor was noted in
the water sample from SP-6, and a light diesel odor was detected
from the water sample from SP-7 . Refer to PLATES VII, VIII, & IX
for details of the lithology encountered during the work
Equipment was again mobilized on April 15 under the supervision
of Charles Fry, RG, from Wm. J. Hunter & Associates The probe
unit set up on the location for SP-8 as shown on PLATE II Soil
samples were collected & preserved at 5 ' intervals from 5 ' bgl to
25 ' bgl using previously described procedures . Groundwater was
collected by pushing a clean hydropunch-type tool to about 271 ; 2
VOA' s & a 1 liter bottle were filled, labeled and preserved for
transport
After cleaning all equipment, the probe unit was set up on the
site marked for SP-9, (see PLATE II . ) Soil & water samples were
taken at the same depths and by the same procedures described for
SP-8
After decontaminating tools, the truck was spotted on SP-10 (see
PLATE II, ) and the above procedure was repeated. None of the
soil samples from the three probe holes had any detectable odor,
but water samples from SP-9 & SP-10 had a smell like sewage
rather than petroleum. Refer to PLATES X, XI, & XII for details
of soils penetrated. The probe holes were thoroughly grouted
Is with cement and the probe unit released.
3
