The preserved soil & water samples were transferred under custody
chain to Sherwood labs with instructions to analyze for BTEX
(w/BTBE distinction, ) TPHg, & TEPH.
DISCUSSION OF RESULTS OF ABOVE WORK.
TABLE XII summarizes the results of laboratory analyses of soil
samples from the 10 probe holes . SP-1, SP-2 , SP-5, SP-6, SP-7,
SP-9, and SP-10 revealed measurable amounts of TEPH, (motor oil &
diesel range, ) in soil samples from 51 . Toluene, ethylbenzene &
xylene were detected in the soil sample from 5 ' in SP-1, &
toluene was measured in the soil sample at 20 ' from that probe
hole . Toluene was measured from the sample at 5 ' in SP-2, and
toluene & xylene were detected in the soil sample at 51 in SP-6 .
Probe hole SP-7 measured benzene, toluene, & xylene in the soil
sample from 15 , & 201 , and toluene & xylene from the sample taken
at 25 ' .
Probe hole SP-9 revealed a minor amount of TEPH (motor oil
range, ) in the soil sample from 151 . Probe holes SP-3 , SP-4, &
SP-8 did not reveal any contamination in the soil samples taken
during the work
The results of the soil analyses are not plotted on PLATE II, but
a review of that map reveals that soil contamination is present
throughout the area tested, and suggests that more than one
source exists
TABLE XIII summarizes the results of the water analyses from the
10 soil probes; it shows that ALL 10 soil probes revealed varying
levels of petroleum hydrocarbon compounds SP-6, a short dis-
tance west of MW-5, (Nomellini, ) measured extremely high levels
of BTEX & TPHg. This confirms that the gasoline contamination
associated with the Nomellini site dust to the east has migrated
onto the Independent Trucking site, and appears to extend at
least as far as MW-4, and possibly farther to the west .
The groundwater sample obtained from SP-1, located in the parking
area between the office building and Charter Way, revealed minor
amounts of toluene, ethylbenzene, & xylene, as well as 143 ug/L
Of TEPH as motor oil .
SP-2, also in the parking area south of the shop budding,
revealed a minor amount of xylene & TEPH in the groundwater
sample Both of these probe holes are a considerable distance
from, and not in a downgradient position to identified sources
Of contamination.
SP-3 , located inside the fenced area about 150 feet from the
4
