IWAW"
Ms. Roberta M. Kaitz
Kaitz Property Services
June 28, 1996
Page 2
map gave an approximate location for the former oxidation ponds in relation to the current property
configuration (Figure 2, Attachment A).
Soil Borings and Sampling
Hygienetics obtained the required soil boring permit from the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services(SJCPHS)Environmental Health Division(no. SR9543). Prior to any boring installations,
Hygienetics cleared the locations for public subsurface utilities, drainage, and sanitary sewer lines by
reviewing property utility plans and by using a private utility locator(Norcal Geophysical Consultants
of Petaluma, California); selected boring locations were also cleared by notifying Underground
Service Alert (USA) (request no. 153120).
Soil samples were collected from five soil borings: three borings were installed in the area in front
of and within the County Hollow Apartments property boundary(fronting on Morgan Place). Two
borings were within or inside the apartment complex. Soil borings were by a direct push Precision
Drilling sampler on a tire-mounted hydraulic drilling rig. Undisturbed soil samples were collected in
brass tubes in a continuous sampler, samples for analyses were selected at approximately 6.0 and 7.0
feet and 9.0 to 10.0 feet below surface grade (bsg). All borings were advanced to approximately 10
ft bsg to determine soil characteristics. Soils were logged (classified) in the field using the Uniform
Soil Classification System(USCS). Soil boring logs are in Attachment B.
Soil samples, from the 9.0 to 10.0 foot depth interval were submitted to a California Department of
Health Services(DHS)accredited laboratory and analyzed for TPH extractable (diesel, kerosene, and
motor oil) using EPA Method 8015 (modified), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using EPA
Method 8240a, and for California Code of Regulations (CCR) Title 22 (CAM 17) metals using EPA
6000 and 7000 series. Detected sample analyses are summarized in Table 1 (Attachment C); certified
laboratory data sheets and the chain of custody are in Attachment D.
Excess soil from the sampling and logging was placed in a five-gallon bucket. Equipment rinsate
water frym the cleaning of the drilling equipment was contained in one 55-gallon drum. The drum
was left on site to be disposed of in accordance with the appropriate regulatory agency requirements;
Rinsate water was analyzed for TPH extractable (diesel, kerosene and motor oil)using EPA Method
8015 (modified), VOCs using EPA Method 8240a/624, and CCR Title 22 metals using EPA 6000
and 7000 series methods.
4234.001kn&yhll.rpt
!ygienetics®
nvironmental
