SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, CASE NO. 390897
1 reviewed the Semi-Annual Monitoring Report Fourth Quarter 2009 (Report) received 25 January 2010
from your consultant ATC Associates, Inc. The Report states maximum groundwater monitoring
concentrations were total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), 650 micrograms per Liter
(ug/L); benzene, 65 ug/L; toluene, 1.8 ug/L; ethylbenzene, 89 ug/L; xylenes, 18 ug/L; methyl tert-butyl
ether (MTBE), 6.7 ug/L; anct1 2=dichioroethane (1, 2-DCA), 120 ug/L. With the exception of
1,2-DCA, maximum concentrations.of all constituents declined up to three orders of magnitude from
the previous three quarters of 2009. The Report recommends the following analyses for specific
monitoring wells during the next semi-annual monitoring event (second quarter of 2010):
Monitoring Wells Recommended Constituents
JLM3, JLM5, JLM13 TPHg, TPHd, BTEX, MTBE, ETBE, DIPE, TAME, TBA, 1,2-DCA, EDB
JLM21 TPHd, BTEX, MTBE, ETBE, DIPE, TAME, TBA, 1,2-DCA, EDB
JLM4, JLM 12, JLM 20, JLM TPHd, MTBE, ETBE, DIPE, TAME, TBA, 1,2-DCA, EDB
22, JLM 23, JLM 26
JLM14 TPHd
JLM15, JLM16 through Sample during 4 quarter of 2010 (constituents to be determined)
JLM19, JLM24 AND JLM25
TPHd—TPH as diesel; BETX—benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes;ETBE—ethyl tertiary butyl ether; DIPE—di isopropyl
ether; TAME—tertiary amyl methyl ether; TBA—tert butyl alcohol; EDB-ethylene dibromide.
The groundwater monitoring will be reduced to the following: analyze and report semi-annually only
those constituents detected in the last four quarterly sampling events (example: for JLM3, report only
TPHg, TPHd, benzene, ethylbenzene, MTBE, TBA, and 1, 2-DCA); with the exception of sentry wells
JLM15, JLM17, JLM18 and JLM19, which shall be analyzed annually during the second semFannual
event (4th quarter) for all constituents detected onsite during the previous quarter. Further sample
reductions will be considered pending review of future monitoring reports. You may contact me
