Remediation Report - 152 East l lth Street, Tracy, California Page 22
At each sampling location the bulldozer was used to open a shallow excavation that
penetrated some 3 in to 4 in below the original surface of the treatment area A sample of
the native soil was recovered from the walls of the excavation by driving a clean, 2 in
diameter by 4 in long, brass sampling tube into the ground until the tube was completely
filled with soil
Following sample recovery, each sample tube was cleaned externally, its ends covered
with aluminum foil and it was closed with tightly fitting plastic caps The caps were
secured with adhesiveless tape Each sample tube was then labeled for identification,
entered into chain-of-custody control and packed on chemical ice for transport to
Chromalab's laboratory in Pleasanton, California
Each soil sample submitted to the laboratory was analyzed for the following suite of
analytes
Anal to Method of Analysis
j Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons EPA Method 5030/8015
(as Gasoline)
Benzene EPA Method 8020
Toluene EPA Method 8020
E
thvl Benzene EPA Method 8020
Total Xylene Isomers EPA Method 8020
The results of the analyses of the samples are presented in Table 4 and copies of the
certificate of analysis issued by the laboratory together with the associated chain of
custody documentation are included in Appendix C
There were no detectable concentrations of components of gasoline in any of the samples
recovered from beneath the soil treatment area This demonstrates that the soil aeration
site was unaffected by the soil treatment operations that were conducted there
SUMM ARY ;
The remedial action reported herein was successful in removing essentially all
contaminated soil from beneath the property at 152 East 11th Street Approximately
1,200 cubic yards of soil, as measured in situ, were removed from the subsurface, treated
so that the post-treatment material contained no detectable traces of contamination and
was made a-,ailable for recycling in beneficial use in agriculture
