{
Underground Service Alert(IDSA) will be notified to mark buried utilities in the vicinity of the
lu
proposed drilling locations; and
A private utility locator will be retained to screen for buried utilities in the vicinity of the proposed
drilling locations.
Borings for the wells will be drilled using auger or direct push methods. The borings will be drilled to a
depth of either 30 feet (for shallow wells) and 55 feet(for deep wells). However exact depths will
depend on field observed groundwater levels and soil types encountered. During drilling, soil samples
will be collected at minimum intervals of approximately 5 feet or detectable changes in lithology
(whichever is more frequent). Soil samples will be classified in the field in approximate accordance with
ASTM Standard 2488 - Standard Practice for Description and Identification of Soils(Visual-Manual
Procedure). Samples will be screened in the field using an organic vapor meter.
Samples with indications of contamination will be retained for laboratory analysis. At a minimum, one soil
i sample collected at the groundwater table from each boring will be retained for laboratory analysis. Soil
samples will be analyzed for TPH-g and BTEX and MTBE by EPA Method 8015M/8021. The monitoring
wells will be completed as 2-inch schedule 40 PVC wells. Surging, bailing, and pumping will be employed
to develop the wells. Well elevations (top of casing)will be surveyed relative to the existing onsite
datum.
Drilling, soil sampling, grab groundwater sampling, well Installation, and well development will be
performed in accordance with the attached standard operating procedures (Appendix A).
4.2 Groundwater Monitoring
Groundwater monitoring will be conducted in accordance with SJCEHD guidelines and the SOP for
groundwater sampling in Appendix A. Samples will be sent to a state-certified laboratory for analysis
using chain-of-custody protocols. Prior to purging, water levels will be measured for the purposes of
constructing groundwater gradient diagrams. Groundwater samples will be analyzed for TPHg, BTEX,
MTBE and fuel oxygenates(EPA Method 8260).
d
5
25971030.DGD 9 October 2009
t
