Food Express, Inc.
Fire Evacuation Plan
Purpose
The purpose of the Fire Evacuation Plan is to ensure all employees are safely and rapidly
evacuated from the facility in the event of a fire. The following guidelines are to be used to assist
in an orderly evacuation.
Notification
- In the event of a fire, notify the nearest management personnel or contact the main office
to contact the fire department at 911.
- Upon hearing the fire alarm or verbal notification, all employees are to exit the facility,
then proceed to the rally point located in the south east corner, next to the front gate. In
the event that someone is not accounted for, inform the Emergency Coordinator.
- The Emergency Coordinator shall make himself/herself known to the fire chief or fire
supervisor upon their arrival. The fire department will have primary responsibility for
coordinating the response or any evacuation.
- The Emergency Coordinator shall inform the fire chief or police of the unaccounted for
individual(s)and approximate last location. If the individual(s)are later accounted for,the
Emergency Coordinator will inform the appropriate authority.
Re-Entry
- No employees, other than management personnel required to assist the fire department,
will be allowed in the building until all clear has been given by the Emergency Coordinator.
- Following notification that the facility is "all clear" by the fire department, the Emergency
Coordinator shall inspect the facility. Only upon completion of this inspection shall
employees be allowed to return to the building or work area.
Evacuation Plan
- Whenever an imminent or actual emergency situation arises and a need to evacuate
personnel from the facility is determined, the Emergency Coordinator will initiate
evacuation procedures by voice communication and signal system.
- The primary evacuation route is through the closest exits within the building that are not
affected by the emergency. Secondary routes would be through the exits from any side
of the building not affected by the emergency. Employees will meet for a head count at
the southeast corner of the yard, located by the main entrance. Employees will remain in
the southeast corner rally point until the emergency coordinator has given the all clear.
- Evacuation routes and exits will be clearly marked and posted throughout the facility.
Fire Classification
Class A"Fires-Occur in ordinary combustible materials such as wood, rubbish, paper, cloth and
must be extinguished by a wetting agent such as water. After initial application of wetting agent,
material should be stirred to make certain that the fire is out.
Class "B"Fires-Occur in flammable liquids such as paint, thinners, grease, oil, gasoline and some
chemicals. Fires of this sort will be aggravated by the use of water. Therefore, class B fires must
be extinguished using a dry chemical extinguisher. B-type, C-type, ABC-type and CO2-type
extinguishers are all effective in putting out a class B fire.Caution: Fires extinguished by CO2-type
extinguishers may re-ignite.
2
