Roberts,011 Company May 23, 1988
Project No. 1628G Page 6
7.0 RECOMMENDED FIELD ACTIVITIES
The work outlined here was discussed in Exceltech's "Site Assessment and Site
Remediation" proposal to Roberts Oil Company dated March 16, 1988.
The additional borehole drilling and sampling operations will be conducted
using a truck mounted drill rig and hollow stem augers. The augers and other
tools used in the borehole drilling operations will be steam cleaned before and
between use to minimize cross -contamination. Sampling equipment will be
washed in a mixture of trisodium phosphate and clear water, rinsed in clear
water, and allowed to air dry prior to collecting subsequent soil samples. Soil
samples will be collected at five (5) foot intervals using a modified California
split spoon sampler with internal brass liners. The borehole will be advanced
to the desired sampling depth and the modified California sampler will be
lowered to the bottom of the borehole. The sampler will be advanced ahead of
the auger string using a 140 Ib. slide hammer. The sampler will then be
removed from the borehole and broken down into its component parts. The soil
sample will be qualitatively screened for petroleum based ionizable compounds
using a field photoionization detector (PID) meter. The PID will be used to
evaluate which soil samples will be analyzed by a state -certified laboratory.
All soil samples that are collected will be capped, labeled, logged on a chain -
of -custody form, and placed in a cooled ice chest for transport to a State of
California certified analytical laboratory.
All soil cuttings generated by the borehole drilling and sampling operations
will be stored on-site according to applicable government regulations. It is the
legal responsibility of Roberts Oil Company to properly dispose of any
contaminated material generated from the field operations. Exceltech can
assist Roberts Oil Company in making arrangements for proper disposal of
contaminated soils on a time and material cost basis.
The ground -water monitoring well installation, well development, ground-
water quality sampling surveying, and Contamination Assessment Report tasks
