30 September 2005
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0109
Guard and U.S.Environmental Protection Agency, 1985).Each proposed drilling location was also
marked for utility clearance through Underground Service Alert.
OZONE INJECTION WELL INSTALLATION
Between 08 September and 12 September 2005,a total of four ozone injection wells were installed
at the site:
• Well OW-1 R was installed in the location of well OW-1,approximately 20 feet west of well
MW-4.
• Well OW-4 was installed approximately 10 feet southeast of well MW-14.
• Well OW-5 was installed approximately 15 feet west of Well MW-8 (near the southern
property boundary).
• Well OW-6 was installed approximately 15 feet east of well EW-1 (near the western property
boundary).
Wells OW-4, OW-5 and OW-6 were installed to depths of 70 feet bsg; well OW-1R was installed
to a depth of 68 feet bsg. Each well was installed utilizing a truck-mounted, hollow-stem drill rig
with 8-inch diameter hollow-stem augers(wells OW-4,OW-5,OW-6)or 12-inch diameter(OW-1R)
hollow-stem augers. Soil cuttings and rinseate generated during drilling activities were containerized
in labeled DOT-approved 55-gallon drums and are presently stored on-site, pending disposal. Soil
samples were not collected during installation of the ozone injection wells.
OZONE INJECTION WELL COMPLETION
Each well was constructed using a 2-inch by 24-inch (OW-4, OW-5, OW-6) or 2-inch by 30-inch
(OW-1R) micro-porous sparge point installed in each borehole. A 1-inch, schedule 80, PVC riser
was connected to the sparge point and extended to the surface.
After installing the well casing in each boring,a#3 Lonestar sand filter pack was emplaced through
the augers over the screen interval to approximately three to four feet above the micro-porous screen
Following placement of the filter pack,a four-foot bentonite seal(bentonite chips)was placed above
the filter pack to minimize the potential for grout penetration into the micro-pourous screen area. The
bentonite seal will be formed by pouring bentonite chips into the annulus and allowing the pellets
to settle on the filter pack. The bentonite pellets were allowed to hydrate for approximately one-half
hour prior to grouting.
Advanced GcoEnvironmental,Inc.
