November 7, 1986 AGS 8691-3
Beacon Service Station #1-502 - Lodi, California
BACKGROUND
The Beacon station investigated is located on the southeast
corner of North Cherokee Lane and Elm Street in Lodi, California,
as shown on the Site Vicinity Map (Plate P-1) . An underground
storage tank cluster consisting of three 10,000 gallon tanks was
present to the northeast of the station building. Two tanks in
the cluster are currently being used to store gasoline, while one
contained diesel fuel product prior to its removal. The
approximate location of the tank cavity is shown on the
Generalized Site Plan (Plate P-2) .
Applied GeoSystems was present at the site during the removal of
the diesel storage tank on September 18, 1986. The removal work
was initiated after pressure testing of the tank showed it not to
be tight. Samples taken immediately below and adjacent to the
north end of the tank showed contamination with diesel fuel in
excess of 1,000 parts per million (Table 1) . Details of this
initial phase of our investigation are given in Applied
GeoSystems ' Report, Environmental Investigation Related to Tank
Removal, October 28, 1986. The monitoring wells installed during
this study were drilled in response to these high levels in order
to determine whether ground water had been affected.
2
A,00/led GeoSystems
