Cherokee Service Center A91701.01
July 10, 1996 Page 2
PROPOSED WORK SCOPE
Task 1 - Additional Sampling - Eastern Dispenser Island
An additional soil sample will be collected at the approximate location of soil boring HA-10
drilled during our investigation in December, 1995. The SJCPHS will be notified of the date
and time that the sample will be collected. The sample will be collected at deeper than
approximately 6 feet below site grade (BSG), or at a reasonable and appropriate depth specified
by the SJCPHS-ESD representative. Soil sampling, decontamination of equipment, handling of
soil cuttings, sample handling, and field screening with a photoionization detector (PID) will be
performed in accordance with our "Standard Operating Procedures" contained in Appendix "A"
of the Amended Work Plan.
The sampling depth will be attained by boring with a hand auger soil boring device until native
soils are encountered (below any fill material). The soil sample will be collected from the native
soils by driving a soil sampler, equipped with stainless-steel or brass sample retention sleeve,
into undisturbed soil at the bottom of the augered hole. The soil sample and cuttings will be
screened in the field with a PID. The soil boring will be abandoned by backfilling with a neat
cement slurry. The slurry will be poured into the boring slowly to preclude the potential for
bridging and formation of voids.
Task 2 - Analytical Testing of Soil Sample
The soil sample will be chemically analyzed in the Twining's analytical laboratory for the
following analytes:
Total petroleum hydrocarbons -gasoline range constituents (TPH-G) and total petroleum
hydrocarbons - diesel range constituents (TPH-D) using the gas chromatography/flame
ionization (GC/FID) method as recommended in the California State Water Resources
Control Board's L=Idng Underground Storage Tank MFT) Field Manual.
Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes(BTEX)and methyl tert-butyl ether(MTBE)
using the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U. S. EPA) Method 8020.
