Draft Phase II Work Plan • 2 • 12 August 1994
DDRW, Tracy
sample with the highest concentration of the analyte of primary concern may be used for
conducting the DI-WET analyses on the other analytes. This approach was discussed during
the 19 July 1994 meeting and is described in Ms. Atwood's 28 July 1994 letter.
The Draft Phase II Work Plan must include identification of the analytes considered to be of
primary concern at each site. As indicated in Ms. Atwood's 25 July 1994 letter, it was
agreed at the meeting that a conference call will be arranged following the Phase II RI soil
sampling and analyses. The purpose of this call will be to discuss the final selection of
samples collected from each site for conducting the DI-WET analyses.
SPECIFIC COMMENTS
SWMU 8 - Burn Pit No. 2: As agreed during the 28 July 1994 teleconference, ground
water at this site must be sampled and analyzed to determine the presence or absence of
dioxins. However, monitoring well LM019A is located approximately 400 feet to the north-
northeast of SWMU 8. This is too far away to determine whether ground water has been
impacted by past activities at this site. At least one soil boring, located at the downgradient
boundary of SWMU 8, must be extended to the water table where a ground water sample
must be collected. Data from this sample will be used to determine if ground water has been
impacted by the contaminants present in soils at this site. The methods used during the
Phase I investigation to analyze for constituents of concern from samples collected from
monitoring well LM019A are acceptable with the addition of an appropriate method to
analyze for dioxins.
As previously discussed, the foregoing comments must be addressed in the Draft Final
Comprehensive Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study - Phase II Work Plan to be submitted by
DDRW, Tracy.
