Area Groundwater Contamination Impacts/Update: <br /> DDRW has impacted the groundwater in one private well . DDRW <br /> recognized that the plume was moving in a northeasterly <br /> direction and moved to provide bottled water to residents in <br /> the path of the plume. In addition to providing bottled water, <br /> DDRW has since installed a carbon wellhead filtration unit at <br /> that home. A maintenance contact on the unit has also been <br /> established for the next five years to maintain the unit. DDRW <br /> is providing bottled water to one other family in that area. <br /> DDRW has not been found to be the potentially responsible party <br /> (PRP ) for the contaminants which were found in this particular <br /> family' s well. Traces of chloroform and carbon tetrachloride <br /> have been detected in their well. DDRW has not found carbon <br /> tetrachloride nor chloroform in the quantities this family has , <br /> however, there are other facilities (upgradient) in the <br /> immediate vicinity that do have levels of these chemicals on <br /> their sites . DDRW does not believe it is the PRP for this <br /> contamination, however, since the family is in the path of the <br /> plume DDRW has elected, as a good neighbor, to provide them with <br /> bottled water. <br /> DDRW has responded to all parties who have expressed concern <br /> regarding the groundwater contamination. They have added an <br /> additional family to the Well Monitoring Program even though <br /> they do not foresee the plume reaching that residence for <br /> several decades . <br /> The depot has been working with RWQCB on a regional sampling <br /> effort to examine water quality surrounding the installation. <br /> This program is not complete. RWQCB has submitted an interim <br /> report to DDRW and they are continuing to look at the regional <br /> water quality. <br /> Mr. John Jones, City of Tracy, asked what was the depth of the <br /> residents ' wells located downgradient from the depot. DDRW said <br /> both wells are less than 300 feet deep. Mr. Jones asked if the <br /> wells penetrate the Corcoran clay layer. DDRW said no, they are <br /> screened in the Upper Tulare Aquifer only. <br /> Mr. Barry Hand, City of Tracy, asked what is the depth of the <br /> monitoring wells at DDRW. DDRW said they have divided the <br /> depths of the wells into horizons. The upper horizon wells are <br /> 40 feet below ground surface (bgs ) , the middle horizon wells <br /> are 80 to 100 feet bgs , and the lower horizon wells are about <br /> 160 feet bgs . The Corcoran clay layer is about 200 feet bgs . <br /> DDRW has not investigated the Corcoran clay layer and they do <br /> not believe they have affected it. <br /> 3 <br />
