w r.✓
22 July 2005
AGE-NC Project No. 05-1282
Page 3 of 5
• A truck scale is located along the eastern side of the facility.
• Unique surface features were discovered in the parking area north of the guard shack via
aerial photographs, dated 2002. The main features of concern were two 60 foot diameter
circles and demarcations indicating corners of a rectangular structure around the circles.
• Historical documents indicate ground water flow around the 210,000-gallon#6 Fuel Oil UST
is towards the southwest. Ground water has generally been encountered throughout the site
at 20 feet bsg in borings, but had a potentiometric surface around 14 to 16 feet bsg.
DRILLING AND SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
AGE proposes the advancement and sampling of a series of soil borings to determine if the soil
and/or ground water has been affected by the above concerns. AGE proposes the advancement of
nineteen 20-foot soil borings for the collection of soil and ground water. The boring locales are
indicated on Figure 2. The borings will be advanced as follows:
• Four borings in the area of the eight former USTs near the northwest corner of the facility
(boring locale#1);
• Three borings in the area of the former 4,000-gallon diesel USTs removed in 1985 and not
sampled(boring locale#2);
• Four borings near the former 210,000-gallon and two 2,500-gallon Fuel Oil#6 USTs(boring
locales#3 and 4)to confirm previous work in these areas as well as provide present-day data
at these locations;
• Two borings in the area of a suspected gasoline UST near the southeast corner of the facility
(boring locale#5), as indicated in historical documents supplied by Rishwain&Rishwain;
• Two borings near the truck scale on the northeast side of the facility(boring locale#6);
• Three borings along the perimeters of the property, in an upgradient and downgradient
direction(boring locales#7, 8 and 9); and
• One boring in the parking area north of the guard shack(boring locale #10), to investigate
surface features discovered in an aerial photograph dated 2002.
The proposed soil probe borings will be advanced using a van-mounted Geoprobe 5400 direct-push
probing unit equipped with 1.25-inch probing rods. If necessary, a hand auger will be used to
advance the borings. The Geoprobe advances soil probe borings using a hydraulic hammer to drive
soil sampling tools to specified depths. The soil boring will be sampled at discrete 5-foot intervals
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
