Mike Pitta
Page 3
April 27,200`1
Subtask A—Early Action Activities. Due to the implementation schedule (cleanup plan
required to be submitted by August 1,2004 for planting in late 2004), a few implementation
activities must be conducted concurrent with conceptual plan development, which is
described in Subtask B. These early action activities include Noxious Weed Control and
Native Plant Procurement,as described below.
• Noxious Weed Control. Several areas of noxious weedsoccur in or directly adjacent to
the planting areas. These will require control in spring;and summer 2004,prior to
planting in late 2004. This may require up to four separate site visits to mow, spray, and
disk the site to reduce the cover of noxious weeds. One of the land owners,Mr.Ron
Barber, will perform this work under his company,L&B Environmental,Inc., at the
direction of CH2M HILL. Conversations with Mr. Barber indicate that a budget of
$5,000 will be adequate to perform this work, which will include the following activities:
- Clear and grub areas of noxious weeks
- Properly dispose of grubbed material(e.g.,in landfill)
- Purchase weed control spray and perform up to three applications of weed control
A quote from Mr. Barber to perform this work is attached to this proposal. It is assumed
that CH2M HILL will make four brief trips to the site to review initial and evolving site
conditions and coordinate the weed control work with Mr. Barber. The first trip will be
conducted by two CH2M HILL staff(Ms.Hiss and another Professional) to review the
site with Mr. Barber and discuss details of the weed control work. Subsequent trips will
be conducted by one CH2M HILL staff(other Professional) to review the progress of site
conditions.
• Native Plant Procurement. Native plants must be secured several months prior to
planting. This task will include an allowance to procure container plants from,a
reputable native plant nursery. This scope assumes that a $1,500 native plant allotment
will be sufficient to obtain the needed materials and have them delivered to the site. The
delivery schedule will be coordinated so that the plants arrive at the proper planting
times.
Subtask B -Prepare Conceptual Planting Plan. CH2M HILL will prepare a conceptual
planting plan for the installation of phytoremediation system, including trees, shrubs, and
the irrigation system. The purpose of this plan is to obtain buy-in from the land owners
(Mr. Ron Barber and Mr. Coleman Foley) at the concept level before preparing the final
cleanup plan. This conceptual plan will contain the following information:
• Site layout drawing showing overall planting areas
• Layout drawings of specific plants and irrigation system
• Narrative summary of project elements
The narrative summary will include the following: Project Overview,Goals of
Phytoremediation,Implementation Elements,Monitoring and Maintenance Procedures,and
