Mike Pitta
Page 7
April 27,2004
CH2M HILL will review a draft version of these interpretive materials and provide
comments to SECOR.
CH2M HILL will prepare a draft of the quarterly and serniannual groundwater monitoring
reports for review by KMEP and a final report incorporating any comments by KMEP for
submission to the RWQCB.
This scope of work does not include preparation of the bioremediation pilot study interum
evaluation report due to the RWQCB by April 1,2005 as required in the RWQCB's
January 30,2004 letter. This work will be included in a subsequent work directive.
Task 3—Abandon Wells M-9, N-6,and RW-2
As required in Revised MRP No. R5-2004-0803,CH2M HILL will abandon Wells M-9,N-6,
and RW-2. Monitoring wells M-9 and N-6 are to be abandoned because they have
consistently been dry for the past several years of grouridwater monitoring. RW-2 is being
abandoned because it is completed in clayey sediments which are too low in permeability
for effective groundwater extraction. These three wells are completed as follows according
to well completion diagrams and conversation with Bill Morrison:
Well Casin Diameter Depth
M-9 PVC 4 inch 17 feet
N-6 PVC 2 inch 16 feet
RW-2 PVC 6 inch 35 feet
Permits will be obtained from San Joaquin County prior to commencement of work.
However, the County will require a letter form the oversight agency(RWQCB) approving
the well abandonment work. The RWQCB has indicated no other work plan documents
will be required. The wells will be abandoned in accordance with State and County
requirements. Abandonment will include the following work using hollow stem auger
drilling methods:
• Removing the subsurface completions
• Drilling out the subsurface materials
• Grouting the boreholes to surface
• Placing drilled out materials into drums for subsequent disposal
• Collecting samples of the drummed materials for laboratory analysis for disposal
A CH2M HILL hydrogeologist will procure the County pemnit, oversee the abandonment
work, and prepare a brief well abandonment memorandum to document the work. A draft
of the well abandonment memorandum will be prepared for review by KMEP and a final
memorandum incorporating any comments by KMEP will then be prepared for submittal to
San Joaquin County and the RWQCB. CH2M HILL will update the current site health and
