We are doing airknife clearing (to 5 feet deep) today
and have a situation where we have concerns about the proximity of an electrical line near wells S-4 and 5-11
(attached Site Map shows the location of these wells—near corner of Country Club & Pershing; and the attached photo
shows the marked electrical line (in pink) and its proximity to wells S-4 and 5-11, with 5-11 being at bottom of the
picture).
The line was identified by our private utility locate service sub, and is a traffic control electrical line that goes from an
electrical box in the sidewalk (out of the picture and locate just before you approach 5-11) and runs to another electrical
box that feeds the traffic signal pictured at the corner of Country Club & Pershing(you can just see the traffic light's
metal post). The location of this line was re-confirmed today by the City of Stockton and also confirmed today by
potholing and physical locating it. This line is about 1 foot away from our well 5-11 and about 3 feet from our well S-
4. These two wells were proposed to be over drilled because during the last groundwater sample event there was very
low level diesel hits in both wells. We have obvious great safety concerns with overdrilling these two wells because of 1)
the very close proximity of the line to our wells, and 2) because it is an electrical line which can cause serious injury in a
case of a accidental incident. Over-drilling well 5-11 presents the highest risk because the electrical line is so close.
Because, as you know, we always err on the side of safety as our top priority, we asked Johnny Yoakum in the field
today if we could get approval to pressure grout these two wells, and he denied our request and said he would mention
it to his supervisor(s). I would like to again reiterate our request for an approval for a variance to pressure grout these
two wells (particularly and most importantly well 5-11, which present the greatest danger to us); and/or have Jonny's
denial for pressure grout approval be confirmed by his supervisors.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks Adrienne -
Regards-
Dennis
egards-Dennis Baertschi
Conestoga-Rovers & Associates (CRA)
3969 Walnut Drive
Eureka, CA 95503
Phone: 707-268-3888 ext. 202
E-Mail: dbaertschi(a)-CRAworld.com
CRA and GHD have merged! To learn more, visit www.CRAworld.com/ghd
2
