1.0INTRODUCTION
0 Kwikee Foods is a convenience store and former gasoline filling station located on Country Club
Boulevard in Stockton, California. The property is owned by Mr. William Peters, and has been
leased out for several years. Following the discovery of gasoline in groundwater beneath the site in
1990, the site was placed in the Local Oversight Program of San Joaquin County Department of
Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) and assessment of the extent of
contamination was initiated. Mr. Peters retained Upgradient Environmental Consultants in 1994 to
install two additional monitoring wells and begin quarterly groundwater monitoring. Mr. Peters
retained SEMCO, Inc. to remove the two underground gasoline storage tanks in 1998, and shortly
thereafter Upgradient Environmental completed the assessment of soil contamination by drilling
five borings around the perimeter of the UST excavation. In early 2000, Mr. Peters was accepted
into the State UST Cleanup Fund Program, and subsequently obtained bids from Upgradient
Environmental and two other consulting companies to install additional monitoring wells to further
evaluate the extent of groundwater contamination. Mr. Peters retained Upgradient Environmental in
June, and the work was performed during July, August, and September. The purpose of this report
is to present the results of this newest phase of investigation.
2.0 BACKGROUND D10ORMAT ION
2.1 Site 1Loc$tion and Description
The project site is located at 2081 Country Club Boulevard in west-central Stockton. The location
of the site is shown in Figure 1, and the site facilities are shown in Figure 2. The site is located in a
residential/commercial area, and the local topography is flat. A Chevron gasoline station was
formerly located across Franklin Street from the site. The station has been demolished and
remediation of the site is scheduled to begin shortly.
2.2 Summary of Previous Results
Groundwater monitoring wells KF-1, KF-2, and KF-3 have been sampled on several occasions
since early 1995, and gasoline-range hydrocarbons have been detected each time. Well KF-3 is
located closest to the former tank facility, and is the most severely impacted. The groundwater flow
direction is generally east-northeast, and well KF-2 is therefore more impacted than KF-1.
Holes were found in both 10,000-gallon unleaded storage tanks when they were removed in March
1998. Five Geoprobe® borings were drilled in May 1998 around the former UST cavity, and three
of the five probes found evidence of soil contamination. Based on the results, Upgradient
Environmental calculated that the volume of contaminated soil is approximately 550 cubic yards,
with average TPH-g and benzene concentrations of 100 and 0.1 mg/kg, respectively.
3
