The borings will penetrate the shallow saturated zone, which is
anticipated to lie 12 to 30 feet below surface.
■ If field screening and analyses indicates the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons
in soil and/or groundwater, Fugro will continue to Investigate the potential vertical
and lateral extent.
■ To install a vapor extraction (VE) well in at least one of the borings. Any VE wells
installed may be used immediately, or as necessary, for soil venting.
■ To investigate the presence of volatile hydrocarbons in the tank basin using a
portable photo-ionization detector. Vapor extraction points may be installed in the
tank basin, if possible, for immediate use, or as necessary.
■ To install a groundwater well in the vicinity of the tank basin. The well may also
potentially be used for vapor extraction. If warranted, additional groundwater wells
may be installed on site for monitoring and/or mitigation.
■ If impacted groundwater or separate-phase hydrocarbons are encountered near
the tank basin, a pump truck may be used for direct removal.
The first boring will be drilled adjacent to the south end of the tank basin in the area of
investigation shown on Figure 2. Fugra's primary objective will be to access and remove
petroleum hydrocarbons from the subsurface by vapor extraction and/or direct pumping
of fluids. Additional borings may be drilled and sampled at other locations around the
tank basin as required.
Monitoring wells installed during the field work will be constructed according to the
standards found in the California Code of Regulations, Title 23, Section 2647 and 2648,
and the California Department of Water Resources Bulletin 74-81.
