42 Soil and Groundwater Sample Collection/Results
On July 22, 1998, two 4-point composite sell samples(SC-1-A, B, C, D and SCA-E, F, G, H) were
collected by Flour Daniel GTI personnel from the estimated 280 cubic yards of soil used to backfill the
old tank ptt The soil samples were collected directly from the backhoe bucket during the transferring
' of the soil in 2-inch diameter by 6-inch long brass sleeves The eight sample tubes were seated with
teflon pads, plastic caps and tape, labeled, placed on Ice in an Insulated container, and submitted for
analyses under chain--of-custody manifest to WEST Labs in Davis, CA The two composite samples
were analyzed by WEST Labs for BTEX. MTBE,TPH-G, and TPH-D by EPA methods 8015/8020,
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) by EPA method 8260, and PCB's by EPA method 8082
Laboratory analytical results of the soil samples collected July 22, 1998 are summarized in Table 1,
and copies of the analytical data are included in Appendtx C Benzene, MTBE,TPH-D, PCBs, and
VOC analytes were not detected in the samples collected TPH-G was detected at 19 mg/kg in sample
SC-1-A, B, C, D, and 38 mgflcg in sample SC-1-E, F, G, H
On July 27, 1998, during the continued excavation of the new tank pit, a grab sample (TP-13)was
collected from the groundwater which had accumulated in the tank excavation to a depth of
approximately 10 feet BGS The groundwater sample was collected following the same groundwater
sampling protocol mentioned in the previous section and analyzed by WEST Labs for BTEX,MTBE,
TPH-G, and total petroleum hydrocarbons-as-diesel by EPA methods 801518020,the oxygenates TBA,
MTBE, DIPE, ETRE, TAME by EPA method 8260, and total lead by EPA method 6010 The
' groundwater sample was collected at the direction and under the observation of Mr Michael Kith of the
SJCPHS
Laboratory analytical results of the groundwater sample collected on July 27, 1998 are summarized in
Table 1, and copies of the analytical data are included in Appendix C Benzene and TPH-G were
detected at concentrations of 300 pg/L and 3,100 pg/L, respectively MTBE was detected at a
concentration of 27 mgfkg by EPA method 8260
On July 30, 1998,following excavation of the new tank pit, one soil sample (NTP-SW-15')was
collected from the southwestern portion of tank excavation The sample was collected directly from the
excavator bucket in a 2-inch diameter by 6-4nch long brass sleeve following the same soil sampling
protocol mentioned above and analyzed by WEST Labs for BTEX, MTBE, TPH-G, and TPH-D by EPA
methods 801518020,the oxygenates TBA, MTBE, DIPE, ETRE, and TAME, including methanol and
ethanol by EPA method 8260 The soil sample was collected at the direction and observation of Mr
Michael Infurrta of the SJCPHS
Laboratory analytical results of the soil sample collected on July 30, 1998 are summarized in Table 1,
and copies of the analytical data are included in Appendix C Benzene and TPH-G were detected in
1 d 117ust rpt
