Your input and onsite inspections have been invaluable
in getting La Comercial open. This letter is to recap our telephone conversation and provide
additional detail and observations. Working with County Environmental Health and City Code
Enforcement we hope to correct some serious problems in the mobile food vendor industry
within our community.
La Comercial Commissary has been operational for 18 months and to date has secured only 20
solid clients. This is completely baffling to us. Something is wrong! La Comercial is the most
modem, sanitary and environmentally responsible mobile food vending facility within the area.
Our accommodations are exceptional and fees are comparable or below the competition.
We think the problem may be trucks parking at home, not at the commissary. After discussions
with several tenants we have come to learn it is common practice among food truck vendors to
pay for a certificate but seldom (if ever)park at their registered facility. La Comercial has been
solicited to do this but has refused. The law states that trucks must use and park at an approved
commissary, not just buy a signature on a letter...right? These vendors are likely paying a
reduced fee for not parking at the commissary and instead are parking at home or at some other
convenient location.
Signed commissary letters are too easy to get! All one needs to do is come to La Comercial and
request a spot. After paying an initial month of rent (maybe a few) these trucks simply leave.
Our books are updated but there is no mechanism to update the County database. Please refer to
the attached scan of the Facility Inventory report provided to us by Environmental Health
approximately one month ago. We have highlighted this report with our notes reflecting the
current status of each of these "facilities." A check mark means YES they are a current La
Comercial commissary customer; X meaning they are no longer here; ? meaning we are not sure
who these vendors are;plus we have new additions handwritten at the bottom.
If the County database is this out of date with respect to La Comercial,it is highly likely the case
with the other facilities, as well. Again, according to the same report, the facility located at 730
S. California Street has 67 food trucks listed, when according to the building department; it is
La Comercial Corporation • Post Office Box 379 Stockton, CA 95201 • 209-464-4570
