Mary Meays of
SJCEHD called on August 29, 1995 with comments on the report and requested that GTI provide
conclusions and recommendations. This was immediately prepared and submitted for review.
Copies of the report and addendum are attached. On November 9, 1995, SJCEHD requested
additional soil and groundwater investigation be performed and that a work plan be submitted
proposing the work to be performed.
On January 29, 1996 GTI prepared a work plan for additional site characterization and on
February 23, 1996 SJCEHD approved the plan with comments and modifications. Before the
additional borehole and wells will be drilled, the site will undergo additional groundwater
monitoring establish a trend in groundwater gradient. This work is in progress and will be
performed according to the schedule shown below.
In a phone conversation with Mary Meays after she reviewed the January 20, 1996 work plan, we
discussed several aspects of the project including the need for additional groundwater monitoring
to confirm the dominant groundwater gradient direction prior to installation of the additional
wells. Consequently, GTI and Del-Tech performed monthly groundwater level measurements
and on September 11, 1996 performed a monitoring event. A minimum of 12 inches of free
product was discovered in MW-2 and a daily product recovery program was initiated by hand
bailing methods performed by Mr. Teranishi.
On December 18, 1996 a groundwater monitoring report was prepared and submitted to
SCPHSEHD and the CRWQCBCVR. A letter from Mary Meays on January 9, 1997 reviewed
the summary report and requested immediate action to address the need for further
characterization of groundwater impacted by these chemicals and to perform a receptor survey to
determine which wells and homes may be in the path of this plume and the potential risk to
human health.
On January 17, 1997 a groundwater monitoring event was performed and Mary Meays observed
the monitoring work and held a project review and planning meeting between Mr. & Mrs.
•Teranishi, Don Light, and Ray Kablanow. A schedule of work was outlined and the critical
issues outlined.
On January 20, 1997 GTI prepared an addendum to the January 29, 1996 work plan. On
February 3, 1997 Mary Meays approved the plan with comments. The well survey was started
on January 17, 1997 and will be completed as soon as possible. Three of the closed domestic
wells are being monitored on a routine basis along with the monitoring wells.
Proposed Direction of Proiect
The additional site characterization work plan with modifications as requested by SJCEHD
includes the work outlined below. As this work is being performed and information is being
obtained, we will evaluate it to determine if modifications should be made to streamline the
investigative process and bring cost savings to the client and the Fund.
Additional Site Characterization Work
• prepare work plan
• perform a well survey with in a 2000 foot radius
• assist George's Service in obtaining easements & agreements with adjoining property owners
